In August 2025, Antonio Acosta-Rua, Counsellor to the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Cuba, held a working meeting with Archbishop Dionisio Guillermo Garc\u00eda Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez, Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba, as part of continued collaboration with the local Church. The program formed part of a multiday working visit in the Archdiocese.<\/p>\n
The meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to charitable and pastoral works that serve people in need across the diocese and the Oriente region of Cuba. During the visit, the program also included observation of the distribution of humanitarian goods and visits to several projects supported by the Order of Malta within the Archdiocese. These visits provided an opportunity to meet beneficiaries and the teams who serve them, and to support continued coordination for ongoing assistance.<\/p>\n
As part of the program, Iglesia San Francisco de As\u00eds was also visited. The property includes community and service spaces in addition to the church building. The Order of Malta supports a comedor there and is assisting, together with other collaborators, in the rebuilding and recovery of the property to strengthen its ability to serve the community.<\/p>\n
The visit also included time at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre (Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre), Cuba\u2019s patron saint, in a spirit of faith and accompaniment. In addition, Counsellor Acosta-Rua accompanied the Archbishop as he celebrated Mass with the community in San Luis.<\/p>\n
