In November 2025, Antonio Acosta-Rua, Counsellor to the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Cuba, accompanied Juan Tomás O’Naghten, Director of Cuba Projects for the Cuban Association of the Order of Malta, during a working visit in the Havana area focused on follow-up and coordination for ongoing food assistance supported by the Order of Malta. Abe Smith, representing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also participated in the program in order to observe this humanitarian work firsthand.
The program included visits to points of service that benefit from food donations coordinated through the Order of Malta mission, including charitable works serving people in need. The visit also included observation of the unloading and handling of a donated shipment, as well as follow-up at distribution and service points to support orderly planning and continuity of assistance.
Food containers supporting this mission have been made possible through the help of various partners and benefactors. Among these, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has provided sustained humanitarian support over time through donations that have helped strengthen food assistance reaching beneficiaries through established charitable works.
The Embassy expresses sincere gratitude to all collaborators and donors who make this service possible, and reaffirms its commitment to coordinated humanitarian assistance in close collaboration with the Church.
