During his official visit to Cuba, the First Counsellor of the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Cuba, Antonio Acosta-Rua, together with Juan Tomás O’Naghten, Cuba Projects Director for the Cuban Association of the Order of Malta, participated in a fraternal meeting with Monsignor Eloy Ricardo Martínez, Auxiliary Bishop of Havana.
As part of the encounter, they shared in the celebration of the Holy Mass, presided over by Mons. Eloy at San Francisco de Paula Parish in the Víbora neighborhood of Havana. The Eucharist was held in an atmosphere of closeness and gratitude for the joint service that both the local Church and the Order of Malta provide to the most vulnerable communities.
After the Mass, the delegation toured the parish complex, where several potential collaborative projects are being evaluated to benefit elderly people, including the establishment of a future Casa de Abuelos. Members of the pastoral community and religious sisters currently running the service were also present during the visit.
This encounter reaffirmed the spirit of service, collaboration, and closeness that guides the diplomatic and humanitarian mission of the Order of Malta in Cuba, always in dialogue with ecclesiastical authorities and in service of human dignity.
