In November 2025, Antonio Acosta-Rua, Counsellor to the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Cuba, accompanied Juan Tomás O’Naghten, Director of Cuba Projects for the Cuban Association of the Order of Malta, to an institutional meeting with the Cuban Conference of Bishops.

This type of briefing is held periodically in connection with the bishops’ annual gathering, complementing the Order of Malta’s ongoing engagement with bishops and diocesan teams throughout the year. During the session, Juan Tomás O’Naghten provided an overview of the Order of Malta’s humanitarian work in Cuba over the past several years, highlighting continuity of assistance through established charitable and pastoral works serving people in need.

Counsellor Acosta-Rua offered additional comments on behalf of the Embassy and expressed gratitude to the bishops for their welcome and for their continued collaboration in support of charitable works serving people in need.

The Embassy expresses gratitude for the welcome received and reaffirms its commitment to continued humanitarian service in close cooperation with the Church.
