As part of his official visit to Cuba, the First Counsellor of the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Cuba, Antonio Acosta-Rua, was received by Architect Perla Rosales Aguirreurreta, Deputy General Director of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana, along with her team, at the Casa Eusebio Leal.

The visit included a guided tour of this emblematic site — the former residence and restoration project of Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, a key figure in the revitalization of Old Havana. Counsellor Acosta-Rua expressed his admiration for the beauty of the space and for the quality of the conservation work carried out by the Office of the Historian.

Particular attention was given to the Pro Merito Melitense medal on display, awarded during Leal’s lifetime by the Sovereign Order of Malta. This honor reflects Leal’s exceptional dedication to cultural heritage, human dignity, and the common good — values that likewise inspire the mission of the Order of Malta.

During the subsequent meeting, both parties discussed the possibility of identifying a suitable property within Old Havana for a future Embassy headquarters. The Office of the Historian expressed its willingness to collaborate and present options during future diplomatic visits.

This encounter reinforces the spirit of dialogue and cooperation between the Order of Malta and Cuban heritage institutions, in service of living history, cultural identity, and the common good.
